Hey There!

Nice to E-meet you - I'm Randy, a product design leader, manager, and mentor. I build and nurture passionate design culture and help companies meet their goals with an all-star team. I don't just simply create experiences. The experiences are expertly crafted to meet the user needs through research and testing.

History

Experience

I've managed teams for 2 years, including managing other design managers. I reached my senior manager role in 2024, providing mentorship, team building, and meet with company executives.

Responsibilities

As a manager, I'm responsible for hiring, mentoring, increasing, and decreasing workforce depending on company needs. I've scaled the the team from 5 to up to over 25 designers at my previous senior management role at FloQast.

My Principles

People First

Making sure the team can perform effectively within the company scales into other teams cross functionally. By making sure we mentor our designs to follow guidance and design guidelines, we can provide a clear structure and process.

Communication

Communication can come in many forms, and this could include documentation of design components. Being able to document processes, and research across different teams to understand is more than just talent. It's an art.

Design With Meaning

Designing with just UI won't make the cut. We have to have intentions on why pixels and flows are the way they are. Whether it's from a design system to maintain consistency, or to meet user needs, there needs to be meeting behind each pixel.

Lead With Evidence

Delivering projects blindly can be costly for any company, and that's why we must conduct research to validate our path forward. There are times where research and deadlines may be too short, but we can always find a path forward, even if it means testing internally.

Achievements

Increased team size from 5 to 20

Starting as a team of 5, when I became a manager, I interviewed and selected team members to make the design team grow to 20 members.

Developed and Led Design Systems

I worked with executives to plan the creation of the FloQast design system. This includes creating guidelines and processes for the whole company to follow.

Provide Competency Matrix

Designers need to know what they need to make it to the next step in promotions. I created a matrix that helps junior designers find their way to become a senior designer and what differentiates the roles from each other.

Plan Roadmaps With Executives

For company initiatives, I met with the C-Suite to make sure the design team hits their targets on time. This includes creating roadmaps and guidelines on what our goals are to meet company demands.

Design Process

I established a design process for designers to follow, and included both engineers and designers to understand the way we conduct our work. There are guidelines to keep us consistent, but also flexible enough to take risks and make changes.

Workshops and Design Thinking

I attended in person events for companies, and provided design activities to get participants involved in design thinking. Not everyone knows how to effectively do design thinking, so what I can provide to the company, is to help teams get in sync on how to work together with the design team.
